"We've had a website for years and we're still not ranking" is the single most common thing we hear on a first audit call. It's rarely one big problem — usually it's two or three of the mistakes below, compounding. Here's what we check first, in the order we usually find them.

1. The site isn't fully indexed

If Google hasn't indexed your key pages, nothing else on this list matters. Check Google Search Console's Pages report — a surprising number of Gurgaon business sites have important pages accidentally blocked by robots.txt or a stray noindex tag left over from a staging environment.

2. Page speed is quietly capping rankings

Core Web Vitals are a confirmed ranking factor, and slow sites lose visitors before Google even factors that in. Unoptimised images and render-blocking scripts are the two most common culprits we find.

3. Thin or duplicate content

Pages with a few sentences of generic text, or near-identical copy across service pages, give Google nothing distinct to rank. Every page should answer a specific, different question.

4. No clear keyword targeting per page

When multiple pages loosely target the same keyword, they compete with each other instead of ranking together — a problem called keyword cannibalisation. Each page needs one clear primary target.

5. Missing or incomplete Google Business Profile

For any business with a physical presence or service area in Gurgaon, an unclaimed or thin Google Business Profile means missing the map pack entirely — often the highest-intent traffic available.

6. No backlinks pointing to the site

Even a technically perfect site struggles to rank in competitive categories with zero external sites linking to it. Backlinks remain one of Google's strongest trust signals.

7. Broken internal linking

If your best content isn't linked from anywhere else on the site, Google has a harder time discovering and trusting it. Orphaned pages rarely rank well regardless of content quality.

8. Mobile usability issues

With mobile-first indexing, Google evaluates your mobile experience as the primary version of your site. Tap targets that are too small, text that requires zooming, or content that shifts unexpectedly all count against you.

9. Title tags and meta descriptions left as defaults

Generic, auto-generated titles ("Home — Company Name") waste one of the most direct on-page ranking and click-through-rate levers available.

10. No one is tracking any of it

Without regular rank tracking and Search Console monitoring, small issues (a bad redirect, a dropped page) go unnoticed for months. Most of the mistakes above are cheap to fix quickly — expensive to fix after they've compounded for a year.

The bottom line

None of these mistakes are exotic — they're the same handful of issues, repeated across most Gurgaon business websites we've audited. Fixing even the top three or four usually produces visible ranking movement within a couple of months.
